  • This is a very authentic experience in a hutong. The staff were friendly and helpful. It may be a little difficult to find the hutong at night, but the directions were really clear and helpful and I personally had no issues locating the listing. The room was clean and comfortable, although a little bit chilly.

  • Just wrapped a very comfortable stay at Daniel and Fly by Knight. The staff there are extremely helpful and the rooms + bathrooms are very clean. I was in the private room which was very clean and quiet. Location is a bit hard to find, and may intimidate first-time visitors to China given its location relatively deep within a hutong. But once inside, it is very comfortable with internet/water/beer easily available. Metro stop is very close, though be warned that it doesn't operate between midnight and 5am. Overall, a great experience!

  • We live in Beijing but wanted to explore a different party of the city. Fly by the Knight is a beautifully refurbished old Beijing courtyard. Its staff are friendly and welcoming and the rooms and clean and comfortable. The local area has lots of food choices, including donkey! The courtyard is a side of Beijing that not many people get to see. We will definitely go back!

  • Excellent place to stay in Beijing and perfect location for exploring the city. Daniel and the others are extremely helpful; e.g. in organising day tours to the Great Wall or hiring bicycles.

  • Had a great stay here. Daniel and the rest of the crew at Fly-by-Knight are very helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again if I had family or friends visiting. Normally when I come to Beijing, i just crash on a friend's couch, but I was with my sisters this time, so I had to book a hotel. I'm glad I booked this one. It added an element that can't be added by a hotel that is simply just a roof over one's head.

  • I booked Fly By Knight because I wanted an atmospheric, reasonably-priced, but not overly touristy/cheesy place to stay in Beijing--and it proved to be just that! I had a great stay at FBK.

I stayed in one of the private rooms, and found it to be clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The hostel itself is located in a convenient, 5-10 minute walk away from a subway line, and close to areas with local food. Both the hostel and neighborhood feel safe/secure.

The surrounding neighborhood is filled with alleys--'hutongs'--which are historic, and are great for getting a look into the lives of locals. Be warned though that the area can be a bit confusing at first, and at times a bit muddy if it's rainy, so go prepared with a map and an umbrella!

Everyone on the staff speaks English well and are very welcoming, so it's very easy to converse about local recommendations and help navigating the city. Wireless access and a yummy prepared breakfast were also big pluses.

I would definitely stay at Fly By Knight and hang out with Daniel + crew when I'm back in Beijing!

About
My name is Daniel, and I've traveled a lot. I traveled because I was looking for something. I am a Martial artist who taught for many years, but I know there's more things out there. I've settled in Beijing and decided to live in a courtyard, a nice, quiet, and downtown city courtyard, so I founded Fly by Knight Courtyard. Nothing matters to me more than details, quality, and communication. We have extremely high standards for our mattresses and beddings, spotless cleaning job, and we love to listen to travelers' stories.
