  • This time we - three scientists from the US, South Korea, and Germany participating in an energy-related workshop on Maui - decided not to spend our time in the usual hotel rooms but to rent a house for a week to improve our work-life balance ... :).

Paia was conveniently located for the workshop but the small downtown area is kind of busy. Looking around we found a little bit uphill the Mangolani Inn run by Dave and Nyla Stein where we did rent the upper floor of the nice main building with a total of four bedrooms and a spacious living area with an open and very well-equipped kitchen. It takes about 15-20 mins by feet to Paia downtown with all the dining and some shopping opportunities as well as the beach. The patio offers plenty of space to serve the meals - it's Maul even in late "winter":-) - and to BBQ on the gas-fired equipment available there.

Related to our professional interest in energy questions we really enjoyed some chats with Dave who puts some serious effort into using renewable sources like solar thermal and photovoltaics - with wind to come - to supply both the electricity and heat used in the house.

The Mangolani Inn is very nicely groomed and can only be highly recommended. Dave and Nyla are gracious and unintrusive hosts and great fun to talk to. All three of us would'd be happy to return in the future ... ;-)

  • Stayed here with our Team for a work Project. The stay was awesome and the property is beautiful. Loved Paia Town! Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

  • I and some friends stayed with Dave for four nights, and we had a wonderful time. Dave was very welcoming and accomodating, we had no issues at all with the property - its very nice both inside and out. It's also in an awesome location just a short walk from the town of Paia, which has some really cool food and shops in it. I'd definitely recommend Dave's place to anyone who is looking for a laid-back Maui experience instead of the fancy-resort-type experience.

  • Very good stay by Dave! To consider for one who would prefer a familiar experience, shared with other. Dave's house is pretty good to welcome different people. Close to Paia village, very convenient and comfortable. The "walking distance" to the beach appeared little bit to long, but every thing is really convenient for your car. Really a place to consider. Thanks Dave for this awesome Hawwaï experience!

  • Dave and his Mangolani home were very welcoming. The house is authentic Hawaiian with a hometown feel, creative art work and the most comfortable beds. We loved our stay here and would come again if we needed an add on to our vacation. Everything was clean and cozy....great choice and probably the best place to relax after a long plane ride as it is ridiculously close to the Kahului airport. Dave s a great host too.
